Dallas Museum of Art This eclectic and elegant museum houses a comprehensive collection of European, Asian and Pacific art with an emphasis on American painting. The pet project of philanthropist Mrs. Sidney Smith who donated the initial pieces that comprise the current collection, the DMA has held true to her heart felt belief that art is essential to the being and meant to be enjoyed by everyone.
Bayless Selby House This charming Victorian showcase was built in the late 1800’s. Purchased by the city of Denton and fully restored in 1998, it stands as worthy example of Queen Anne style architecture. Open for tours, the home has been decorated with period furnishings and reflects the life of a wealthy family in turn of the century Texas.
Hanger 10 Flying Museum The Hanger 10 Flying Museum displays, maintains and preserves a wide variety of aircraft in addition to rare military memorabilia. This comprehensive collection of aircraft including antique, classic, contemporary and show is on display at the Denton Municipal Airport. Dedicated to the preservation of aviation history, the volunteer staff at Hanger 10 provides an informative look into these fascinating flying machines.
Sky Theater Located on the University of North Texas campus, the Sky Theater uses one of only twenty astronomical projection devices in the world. Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park Housed in a vintage Art Deco building that is a destination unto itself, the Dallas Aquarium is home to over 6,000 aquatic animals including marine and freshwater fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Opened in 1936, as part of the Texas Centennial festivities, the Aquarium showcases several permanent exhibits that provide an educated peek into the diverse and intriguing world under the sea.
Dallas Zoo Opened in 1888, the Dallas Zoo holds the distinction as being the oldest zoo in Texas. Home to over 2,000 mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds, the Dallas Zoo is known for their innovative and award winning exhibits that painstakingly recreate the animals native habitat and also allow the animals greater freedom. The Dallas Zoo’s “Wilds of Africa” exhibit has been named the best African zoo exhibit by The Zoo Book and features six major African habitats.
The Courthouse on the Square Museum Built in the late 1800’s, this historic courthouse has been transformed into a museum, which chronicles early life in Denton County.
